EASY TABLE SCAPE

     I put together this easy tablescape last week.  It's perfect for right now --since summer is winding down and it's still a bit early for fall décor. 

I started with a lovely linen cloth that is actually upholstery fabric I got from Hobby Lobby.  Then I used two eucalyptus garlands I got a few years ago at Target-Hearth and Hand.  I pulled out almost all of my brass candle sticks.  I have a lot!  They were popular wedding gifts when we got married. I used white tapers in the candle sticks.  Last, I set the table with vintage silverplate-Adoration.  Ironstone dishes and faux wood chargers also from Hobby Lobby.  The napkins came from Belk.  

No Guilt Soup Tureen Love

I love all the beautiful French ironstone pieces I see when I visit blogs.....I have secretly wanted a soup tureen, but here in central Alabama, well, we are just out of the French soup tureen loop. 

I would look at them long and often on ebay and etsy, but didn't feel like I would make a purchase from those sites.  I guess I wanted to hear the choir singing in the background when I saw it for the first time--in person.   You know what I mean--the thrill of discovery! Another reason I have hesitated to make a purchase is the cost.  I love the older pieces but they tend to be a bit hard on the budget (but they are antique and from another country).  I told myself I couldn't justify the purchase because I'm too practical and I don't live in a French country home...

if I did, I might be more inclined to look into a purchase.  

      So, when I saw this tureen a few weeks ago, I decided to bring it home.

I found this piece in a local thrift store in mint condition and

 of course, at a fraction of the cost of a French antique. 

 It's rather freeing.... I don't feel like I have to display this tureen 

for months on end because I spent so much money on it. 

 It's a vintage item with identifying maker marks on the bottom

 that show it was made by California Pottery.   

I love that it has the under plate for the tureen to rest on and I love that the design compliments my white Italian Countryside china.

I love the piece, the price and I can still purchase a French antique tureen when I see one AND of course

if the choir is singing!

Winter White with a Vintage Rhinestone Pin

A few days ago, I decided to use some white on my coffee table. The white looks so nice and clean and reminds me of the snow we don't get very often here in central Alabama.  :(

 Here's the complete look.

I started with a burlap runner on the top of the coffee table.

I added a tray that I had made from a chippy cabinet door.

Next came a pretty candle.

Then I used a piece of ironstone to hold a few interesting items.

And last, I put a nice fresh plant in an old planter.

Here are the details.

I like the frosty ornament with the pretty pin

 and the unexpected pine cone.

When I made the tray, I added these handles.  They are old galvanized pulls that I got at a flea market several years ago.

In this picture, you can see my fireplace with the cozy jugs

and the white architectural piece on the mantel.

I got the pair of Indian juggling clubs that I purchased 

from Miss Mustard Seed at The Market on 

Chapel Hill last October.  I just love them!

Now let's look at the last detail.  

A pretty rhinestone pin.

This pin was on my grandmother's wedding dress in 1929.

It looks so nice here-admired and on display (and so much

better than in a drawer--don't you think?)

Maybe there's a spot in your home that might need a change??

I'm enjoying this new vignette, but I know it will

change in a few weeks as spring approaches.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

     I'm trying to remember if I ever had to write a report with this title when I went back to school....Did you ever write a report with that title? Well, if I was going to write the report, I would mention the fun I have had this summer getting ready for a special day.
Mark your calendars for October 3.  That's the day of the wonderful sale at The Market on Chapel Hill.  It all takes place at The Waters in Pike Road, Alabama. 

                                     
     This is going to be the third year for this vintage market and it promises to be even better THIS year! There are so many wonderful and talented vendors/bloggers and I'm honored to be included in this group.
  
I've attended the two previous Chapel Markets (new name: The Market on Chapel Hill) and here's a post I wrote about my first trip here.

     So, would you like to see some of the things I'm collecting to take to this year's fabulous event??

I haven't fished in years, but I love minnow buckets.  

The graphics on these old beauties caught my eye at the same sale.

I was late attending this sale and it was super hot in the tool shed on this particular afternoon.  For some reason, I squatted down to look and see if there was anything in the corner and this is what I saw.  Do you see it?

I'll bet you see if for sure in this picture....

Yes.  An enamel-topped table!

It took me awhile to get it out of it's hiding place,

 but my efforts yielded a wonderful Geer table!

I'll bring this lovely set of spice jars to this year's event.

And I hope this 1950's quilt ends up on the top of a little girl's bed.  

I can see it --so cute and sweet.
